Ash strive hard but honours even
Yep, it rained
Of course it rained, but this time, it really meant it!
So impressed was Skippy with our performance last week when he decided to play only 10 men, that he chose to start the game with 10 this week. A cunning plan that almost worked, with Ash starting strongly, playing flowing total hockey and taking a well deserved lead when Goal a Game Parker showed why we call him that. But Sevenoaks were well organised, had their own game plan, and came back into the game strongly. Only a fine string of reflex saves by PoM Ellis kept Ash in the game and at half time, all square.
Cue a Churchillian chat from Skip, and Ash flew out for the second half, and threw everything they had at Sevenoaks, including some handbags. With a nod to pundits everywhere, Sevenoaks absorbed the pressure and managed to finally beat Hurst, Streatfield and co with a break away goal to take the lead. Cue one of the better handbags from the Minion.
With literally 10 seconds on the clock, and at the 37th time of asking, Ash managed to score from a short corner when Ant Wellard cooly flicked home, honours even.
Haws-Gatt and Parker were sharp and dangerous all day, Felic was his usual cucumber self, Gollan A was brave and fearless despite his injuries, Hendrie solid and reliable, and on reflection, a really good first half of the season, but with more, oh much more expected in 2019.
Doughtnut of the day, well lets have a Pop Quiz, which member of the team had his mum ask me to stop sending him so much in these reports? I will provide a clue, I have ignore the request despite the fact that it was almost a Presidential edict.
Special thanks to Alan Atkin and Chris Dixon for umpiring in the inclement conditions.
Happy Christmas all.
