Ash continue thier winning run
Ash continue thier winning run with an emphatic 6 nill win away to Holcombe.
Following their 3 wins on the trot, Captain Des Hewagama decided to go AWOL leaving Club Captain Jon Steel in charge of a psyched up Burnt Ash 3's ready for the upcoming game against Holcombe. An early text message to determine who is going direct and whose meeting at the club, showed of Steely’s organising prowess, its unfortunate however not everyone could follow Steely’s lead in being organised and once again we found ourselves waiting for James Strattan well beyond the meet time.
Regardless of this, we arrived at Holcombe in plenty of time to warm up for the game, and with thanks to Laurence Ball's weather jinx, a pre game shower. The game started well with Stratts scoring a low drag flick past the holcombe defence. The majority of the first half continued to play with Burnt Ash dominance, holcombe did get a few short corners but these were easily dispatched by the Burnt Ash defence. Just as the first half was coming to an end Burnt Ash pushed on once again, and this time Duncan Willis scored from a rumble on the Holcombes' goal line. Giving Burnt Ash a half time 2-0 lead.
After a brief halftime talk, the team stepped up ready for the second half eager to push forward and score more goals. Holcombe however had other plans. Holcombe started to apply some pressure from the start on the Burnt Ash Defence forcing some important tackles and saves to keep them at bay. The pressure was evident and piggy deciding to coach an umpire led to a hit inside the 25 being upgraded to a short corner. Burnt Ash prevented Holcombe from capitalising with a good save, and well distributed clearance from the defence created a quick counter attack, that led to a Burnt Ash short corner, which was timely dispatched by Stratts once again, however it was a "slightly higher than low" drag flick. " I figured the keeper would go low so i wanted to make sure it would go over his glove" commented Stratts after the game. 3-0.
Cue the war cry from sideline coach Martin Talbot " COME ON YOU REDS... ERM... YELLOWS!! "
Be it the goal or the war cry (i'm going with the war cry) it deflated the pressure from Holcombe and their heads soon followed as Mike Burgon converted a reverse stick assist with a first time strike at the top of D which squeezed under a frustrated Holcombe Keeper.
That was it for Holcombe they were out of the game, Burnt Ash possession started to take supremecy and went on to score two more goals, the first was a rebound tap in for Mike via Stratts hitting the post.
The second was a nice slip assist from Issac Herridge to Stratts for a simple tap in.. yeah I know Stratts got a hatrick.. we were all stunned as well.
Holcombe 4's (0) vs Burnt Ash 3's (6)
