Men's 7ths edge it in 11 goal thriller
Burnt Ash 7ths 6 - 5 Maidstone 6ths
The 7ths were at Hurstmere for their first game there this season. The game started well for Ash for once when they took the lead with a flukey goal in the 4th minute - Graham Elliott had a push at the goal following on from a Chris Nicholson strike which the Maidstone kicking back saved but then managed to turn it into his own net.
Maidstone equalised soon after on the 7th minute and then scored two more goals in the 12th and 17th minutes.
The game was end-to-end throughout and Burnt Ash had several shots on goal during this time but the Maidstone kicking back made some amazing saves until Peter Billane scored Ash's second goal when he followed up from a short corner and slapped the ball into the net, nearly taking the full back's head with it!
So, it was 2-3 down at the break but Burnt Ash had shown potential in the last ten minutes of the half and the second half started well for Burnt Ash when they took the score to 3-3 when Chris Nicholson had a great shot into the Maidstone net in the 43rd minute. The Maidstone centre forward then took his goal tally to five when he scored two almost identical goals in the 50th and 52nd minute - a hard cross from the right which he then clipped in at the near post.
Ash were not downhearted and fought resolutely, being rewarded in the 57th minute when Chris Nicholson rifled a shot into the top of the net. Peter Billane then added two more goals in the 63rd and 65th minutes to give Ash a deserved 6-5 victory.
The game was played in a good spirit (mostly) and, in particular, the Maidstone kicking back should be commended for his efforts in the Maidstone goal.
Many thanks to Terry Cook and Des Hewagama who umpired for us and controlled the game well.
