After showing some promising signs on a cold
Wednesday evening training session, the Burnt Ash 1st XI looked to cast
aside their previous back to back defeats and revert to winning ways against
Southwick. Following the lengthy journey down to Brighton, an extensive
warm-up and team talk ensued, ! preparing the team both mentally and
physically. The match commenced in due time, and donning the elegant yellow
strip provided by Mary Waight, Burnt Ash got off to a good start. Southwick
began on the back foot, with some excellent pressure by the team from
Bexley. Some great interplay between the midfield and the attack led to an
array of chances encompassing the opposition goal. It wasn’t till after a
while however that the first goal was scored. After great link-up play down
the left hand side, notably from Michael Venn, the ball came to Will Vander
Gucht at the top of the Dee, who fired a ball to the back post, where the
tireless PK was prowling, ready to open up the goal tally for Burnt Ash. It
was not long before they doubled their lead with a fine move, stemming from
Neil Hawkins at the back, which worked its way across the pitch to Andy
Atkin, who belted a ball across the goal, only to find Will Vander Gucht
lurking at the back post, who tapped it in the empty goal.! Two nil, and
they were looking strong. Southwick however had few chances. |
