Coaching
sessions and mini hockey for Juniors are held at Bexley Cricket Club, Manor
Way, Bexley, Kent every Sunday morning from 10:00-12:00 throughout the
season. Older age groups play Kent league fixtures on a regular basis.
Qualified Hockey England coaches deliver quality coaching to Juniors, boys
and girls in appropriate age groups in a friendly and safe environment. At
present Burnt Ash have over 100 junior members from 5-16 years old. Hockey links with local schools are a high priority at Burnt Ash. Currently the Club delivers coaching sessions at Chislehurst & Sidcup G.S, Hurstmere F.S. for Boys, Old Bexley Primary and Merton Court schools. Burnt Ash is hoping to extend those links this season through the Active Sports programme to develop hockey within L.B. Bexley. With our involvement with Bexley Council we have helped to set up the Bexley Hockey Development Group and have recently produced a Junior Leaflet, which has been distributed to local Schools, Libraries and Sports Centres, which will enhance our profile within the local community. Seniors Coaching is available for all players. Coaching sessions for the Men's 1st/2nd team squads are held at Hurstmere F.S. astro pitch, Hurst Road, Sidcup on Wednesdays 8:00-9:30pm. We have employed the coaching services of Nick Wellard. His vast amount of knowledge and coaching experience will bring success and stability to the first three teams in the Men's section and will benefit the Club as a whole. Coaching for the Ladies 1st/2nd team squads is also held at Hurstmere F.S. astro pitch, Hurst Road, Sidcup on Tuesdays 8:00-9:30pm and will be coached by (Position Vacant), a player who also has a wealth of experience. Mid Club training for lower team players (mixed) is held at Hurstmere F.S. on Tuesday evenings 8:00-9:30pm. Coaching Education Coach education is equally important. Over the past four seasons the Club has been successful with Awards for All grants which have helped to fund fourteen members to become Level One coaches, which has now extended the number of qualified coaches at Burnt Ash to twenty six. It has also in the past funded a Summer Camp for Juniors, Goal Keeping, Umpire, First Aid and Child Protection Courses. Level one courses run throughout the season. Anyone wishing to go on a course and become qualified (club members or not) should contact the committee. Sport England and Hockey England have developed the Clubmark Award (Clubs 1st). Burnt Ash was the first Club in Kent and London to be accredited with this award. This will show the local community that Burnt Ash is recognised as a well managed, responsible and effective, child friendly club. Burnt Ash were also voted as the London Active Partnership 'Club of the Year' 2005. (Which includes all sports clubs).
